Situated on the southern coast of the Peloponnese in Greece and just a 45 minute drive from its nearest airport in Kalamata (or 3.5 hours drive from Athens International airport) lies the beautiful and unspoilt village of Stoupa.Municipality of Lefktro, in the prefecture of Messinias – this fascinating area known as the “Mani” is the only part of Greece never have to been conquered by invaders. The “Maniots” built tower houses (known as Mani towers) and holed up in them carrying out local feuds. Some of these Mani towers have been restored and can still be seen in the area. The writer Nikos Kazantzakis wrote “Zorba the Greek” whilst living here and his statue can be seen overlooking Kalogria beach. For history lovers Stoupa is ideally located for visiting such fascinating sites as Ancient Olympia and Mystras for example – Or you could just sit on the beach or in a taverna sipping Ouzo with the locals!

With hot, glorious summers and mild winters and with two main lovely sandy golden beaches(as well as several smaller beaches) this once sleepy village is becoming more and more popular with tourists (although not too many!). There are some 20 or so tavernas & restaurants lining Stoupa beach where the delicious local and traditional Greek cuisine can be sampled.
